Notice of Trustee Vacancy

RECLAMATION DISTRICT No. 1000

On January 9, 2026, Trustee Ed Perez provided notice of his resignation from the Board of Trustees effective immediately.  Per action of the Board of Trustees at the January 9 Board meeting, the following actions and steps for appointment of a new Trustee were approved:

·       Staff are posting this notice at three locations within the District and on the District’s website.

·       Residents living within Reclamation District No. 1000 (Natomas ) are invited to attend the next Reclamation District No. 1000 Board Meeting, held at 8:00 a.m. on February 13, 2026, at the District’s offices at 1633 Garden Highway to observe a meeting of the Board of Trustees.

·       Residents interested in applying for the Trustee position must fill out an application (available in person at the District or on the District’s website) before Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.

·       All information submitted by Residents on the application will be made available to the existing Trustees and posted on the District’s website for the public to view.

·       The Board of Trustees will place an item to appoint a new Trustee on the agenda for their Special Board Meeting to be held on March 6, 2026 at 8:00 a.m.  Applicants must come to the meeting at be available to speak to their candidacy.  The Board of Trustees intends to elect a new Trustee at that meeting and then notify the County within 15 days of the appointment.

·       The Trustee elected at that meeting will serve the remainder of Trustee Perez’s term under Gov. Code § 1780, which means the new Trustee will need to run for the same seat in the fall of 2026 if they wish to remain a Trustee.

All Trustees of the District act as government officials and must comply with all legal and ethical requirements, including biennial training for ethics, sexual harassment prevention, and financial management.  Trustees are paid a nominal fee for their attendance at meetings.  Board meetings are generally on the second Friday of each month at 8:00 a.m. and all Trustees also sit on various committees that are scheduled as appropriate.

Reclamation District 1000 has been providing flood protection to the citizens of Natomas for over a century. Formed by an act of the State Legislature in 1911 our mission is to protect the citizens in our District by maintaining the four levees surrounding the Natomas Basin, miles of drainage canals that form our flood infrastructure and provide irrigation to the basin, and maintaining seven pumping plants.
