IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSITION 1E THE DISASTER PREPAREDNESS AND FLOOD
PREVENTION BOND ACT OF 2006
WHEREAS, recent flood events in the California Central
Valley have highlighted the need for rehabilitation and
strengthening of the levees which are part of the Sacramento
River Flood Control System and;
WHEREAS, the 2005 flooding in New Orleans from Hurricane
Katrina which failed levees resulting in loss of life and
billions of dollars in property damage has raised the public's
awareness of the flood risk facing the Sacramento community
including Natomas; and
WHEREAS, recent studies undertaken by the Sacramento Area
Flood Control Agency have concluded the levees protecting
property in our District do not provide the level of flood
protection previously thought and;
WHEREAS, in response to the need for urgent repairs and
essential improvements to the aging flood control infrastructure
protecting residents and business state-wide, the California
Legislature approved Proposition 1E the Disaster Preparedness
and Flood Prevention Bond Act of 2006 and;
WHEREAS, funds from Proposition 1E could be used for the
strengthening and repairs of the District's levees and it is
anticipated would be used by the State as their share of the
federally authorized American River Common Features Project
which will likely include significant work to the District's
levees;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED
The Board of Trustees of the Reclamation District 1000 hereby
endorse Proposition 1E the Disaster Preparedness and Flood
Prevention Bond Act of 2006 as a means to improve the flood
safety for residents, business and property owners of the
District.
CERTIFICATION
I, Terrie Figueroa, Secretary to the Board of Trustees of
Reclamation District No. 1000 hereby certify that the foregoing
Resolution was duly adopted by the Board of Trustees of
Reclamation District No. 1000 at the regular meeting of the
Board held September 8, 2006, and made a part of the minutes
thereof.
