So I have been told my first attempt at “blogging” was not appropriate for the term and that my random thoughts and writings were more akin to “musings” than blogs, hence my title. Please bear with me, as an engineer I tend to get into the weeds with details and numbers—must be that left-brain dominance (or is it right brain---I can never remember). I hope you enjoy my thoughts and come back to visit again….and drop me a note if you feel so inclined.
Being in the midst of flood season I thought it appropriate to touch upon the weather predictions. The weather soothsayers and other prognosticators still call for a “wet winter”, based on the warm Pacific waters known to us as El Nino. But my trusty rain gauge and simple observations looking out my office window at the smattering of rainfall we have had recently tell me differently. However I was reminded the other day that the winter of 1986 was similar up to Valentine’s Day when the heavens opened up and the rivers roared. So the motto we have adopted around the District is to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
As this a new (and hopefully) improved website, please take some time to look around. There is much information about the District, its rich history spanning almost 100 years as well as some good stuff about flood control issues in |
